2015 Newmarket jazz+ Festival Aug 1-4

Thanks to: 12,000 Patrons, 200 Volunteers and 30 Interns/Coordinators

The Newmarket jazz+ Festival is produced by non-profit organization – Arts Music Festivals York Region whose mandate is to create and develop more festivals in York Region featuring local home-grown Canadian talent.

This unique summer event is a vibrant celebration of arts and culture through the exploration of music, art and as many cultural genres as possible – It is JAZZ PLUS! The glorious festival location at Riverwalk Commons in the heart of the old Town of Newmarket a short walk to Heritage Main Street and Fairy Lake is a wonderful 4 day get away destination for visitors of all ages.

2015 NJF – Music! Two big outdoor stages & Indoor Kids Zone stage showcased over 45 bands and over 330 entertainers during Aug long-weekend, including Francesco Yates, After Hours Big Band, Status, Pretzelogic, Glenn Marais, George & Alex St. Kitts… The Creative Kids Zone Stage with daily live music and a fabulous Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with Mark Pezzelato’s Band!

Visual Art! A dozen Visual Artists in the Visual Artists Village plus live art demonstrations, Plein Air painting, sculpting and a tribute to 100th anniversary of WWI with pics and costumed WWI actors courtesy of the Newmarket Historical Society. Creative Kids Zone featured interactive art, live music, Maker Fair, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Photo Ops with theatrical characters, face painting, clowns and balloons! Imagine Arts Crew and Casandrahs Costumes provided characters in the park as we enjoyed a fabulous Family Day on Monday and dancers from CDA Dance Academy! We walked to Wonderland with the White Rabbit, Red/White Queens, Alice, Tweedle Dee and Dum… it was a glorious time for the kids! Music Workshops by Arcadia Academy of Music on Saturday and Sunday were well received! Thank you Arcadia and for their stars on stage this year with us! Patrons enjoyed Craft Beers, Specialty Wines at our 3 Beer/Wine Gardens and a few dozen Vendors offering great food and shopping!

Big Top Circus performed at Buckley Insurance Vendor Village, Cheetah Cheerleaders thrilled us on Monday – Festival Family Day. Characters in the park brought to us by Marquee Theatre Productions and Imagine Art…

Music Workshops by The Arts Music Store on Saturday, Sunday and Monday were well received – especially the Ukulele classes~!.

Patrons enjoyed 3 Beer/Wine Garden locations in festival grounds and a few dozen Vendors in our Vendors Village offering great food and shopping!

Main Street was closed Saturday and Sunday offering free entertainment: bands on a special Main Street Stage – together with scheduled Improv, Bollywood and more!
Shuttles provided by Sponsor – NewRoads – helped patrons easily get to the festival and enjoy a great time without worries of parking or driving!

VIP Tent – new to festival this year was a hit for those who wished to support the festival and enjoy best seating in the house! Thanks to all our VIPs!

Inaugural Black Tie Event at the Newmarket Theatre – July – a big success thanks to all who attended to support the Launch of the 2014 Festival and a new liaison with the theatre.

2013 Inaugural – Newmarket jazz+ Festival

The Inaugural Newmarket jazz+ Festival (NJF) was a big success, celebrating local visual artists, musicians and entertainers August 2, 3, 4 at Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Drive, Newmarket, Ontario.

Festival included: Visual Artists; Local Musicians/Entertainers, 2 Stages, Children’s Creative Zone, Food Vendors, Shopping, and Beer/Wine Garden.

Patrons: 10,000 Volunteers: 150 (thank you!)

Friday night music! Sounds Caribbean, Reggae, and Steel Pan music enhanced Riverwalk Commons during festival’s “Rock n’Caribana” 6-11pm. Salsa, Latin Jazz and The Arts Music Store Teachers Band! Take a stroll to Newmarket’s Main Street for more live entertainment, great restaurants, pubs and shops!

Saturday’s line-up included Justin Hines, George St. Kitts, Stacey Kaniuk, Chris Hau, Juice, the Non-Affiliated Big Band… Patrons enjoyed Art, Music Workshops; screening of York Region Multi Media Film Festival’s award winning films…. Music Workshops by The Arts Music Store!

Sunday we celebrated “Peace in the Park” at 12:30pm and enjoyed Canadian greats – Jackie Richardson, Lorne Lofsky and George Olliver!

It was a fantastic long weekend of entertainment, food, kid’s activities, workshops & fun for only $5 a day, kids 12/under FREE.
