Ana Wood is an emerging Newmarket-based visual artist, a graduate of OCAD University with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. Her work tends to extract from the underlying tension of being a Guatemalan born female living in Canada with her adoptive family. Her work places elements and references to culture and nature as a means to define her situation of being racially one thing (Guatemalan) while culturally taking on an envelope of diversity to evaluate her own ways of being in the Canadian setting. Using variety, decor and juxtaposition that reflect notions of her personal placement in a modern cultural realm, she is developing a language to express the merging of these cultures in her life.
