Calvin Marejka is a long-time York Region resident who recently graduated from McMaster University. Calvin will be one of our Stage Management Interns for 2015’s fest. He has significant experience with live events and concert production, working with entertainers such as The Arkells, Steve Angello, and Bill Nye The Science Guy. In his spare time he focuses on DJ’ing, producing music, cooking, and anything outdoor-related. He hopes to work closely with his fellow interns to create one of the biggest and best festivals in Canada!
Annemarie Lourenco has been performing professionally in theater for over 15 years and is alumni of Toronto’s acclaimed Second City. She is also trained in clown, theater and buffont, through world renoun teachers of Cirque de Soliel, Soul Pepper and the National Theater School in Montreal. Credits include Second City’s March of Dames and the Womens Comedy Festival, as well as numerous performances for stage, film and television. Teaching credits include the York Region Public School Board, the award winning Children’s Arts Theater School in Toronto and private elementry schools in York Region. Annemarie also likes to write and working on short stories and several childrens books.
Tiffany Folmeg is a sculptor, printmaker and photographer residing in Newmarket, Ontario. Her practice consists of traditional techniques such as carving stone and woodblock printmaking along with analog & digital photography. This beautiful world is the drive to her inspiration; she explores and travels near and broad, which strongly impacts her use of raw and natural materials.
Having initially wanted to become a medical doctor, Hasheel Lodhia completed BSc. prior to his career change. Now he can be defined in three words: an event manager, a hotelier, and a musician! Having finished a hospitality and tourism management degree, Hasheel serves as one of the volunteer coordinators for NJF 2015. He has over has over 11 years of public speaking and competitive debate experience and is a professional musician, singing and playing the Bansuri for over 20 years. Catch him at his next concert! Vivien Hung is a student at York University studying digital media. She enjoys creating traditional and non-traditional art with various mediums and forms. Vivien is looking forward to creating many fun and memorable experiences at the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival.
Sandy Balugas is a 20 years old and one of the Creative Kids Zone Coordinators for the Newmarket Jazz Festival this year. She is very immersive with the arts and is currently studying Integrated Media at OCAD Universitiy. Sandy is ecstatic to work with such an amazing team and hopes to bring her ideas to life. She hopes to contribute to the festival in any way necessary to make it a success.
Neve Walker is a high school student who speaks fluent french and english. She is born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. She is a musician with an interest towards various art forms. She has been playing the piano for five years, recently started playing the guitar, and writes her own music. Neve is very excited to be a part of the TD-Newmarket Jazz + Festival team and looks forward to developing her management and marketing skills.
Khizar Mir – Economic Impact Officer & Intern Coordinator Khizar Mir has been a Newmarket residentfor over eight years and has been part of the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival team since 2014. His roles include – coordinating interns to ensure successful operation of duties and working with the Senior Economic Impact Officer to generate the festival’s economic impact report. Khizar is working towards his Bachelor of Commerce at Laurentian University, pursuing a major in finance and is currently a bank teller at TD Canada Trust.
Ivan is working with the TD-Newmarket jazz+ Festival as an Accounting/Financial Assistant. He attends the Ted Rogers School of Management studying Business Management. Having been a York Region resident for many years, helping the festival is a great opportunity for me to become more involved with and make a personal contribution with this community based event.
Mathew Keating – Senior Economic Impact Officer & Chief Volunteer Coordinator
Mathew Keating is a new resident of Newmarket who has been part of the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival team for over a year. Mathew is a recent graduate of the Ted Rogers School of Management and is currently a consultant at the Newmarket Region Office of Investors Group.
I am Dana Zinberg—18 years young, an 11 year resident of Newmarket, an OCAD University student, and an individual passionate about the arts. Community involvement for me is ever so rewarding; it excites me and prides me greatly. Being a part of something as large as the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival I can’t even fathom.
As a young artist I am still learning and just now beginning to develop my personal style. I truly believe that “A real education for an artist consists of preparation for a pure research of the unknown.” We are forever learning.
Riley Rose is an artist and graduate of the University of Toronto, majoring in Visual Studies. She is acting as Visual Artists Coordinator for the Festival and is passionate about all forms of art.
Anthony Lomax is a student of the music program at Humber College and is also working toward a certificate of psychology at Ryerson University. He is currently focusing on songwriting, composition and teaching. Further, he is an active volunteer, currently working with both Bellwoods Health Services as a music therapist and Victim Services Toronto as a volunteer crisis counsellor. Anthony has over 11 years of retail, merchandising and customer service experience that he is excited to put into use at the Newmarket Jazz+ Festival this summer.
Priscilla Wong is a 4th year Business Management student at Ryerson Student, majoring in Economics and Management Science and minoring in Finance. She is working with the TD Newmarket Jazz Festival as an Accounting/Financial Assistant. On her spare time, Priscilla likes to do graphic designing and testing user experience in multiple projects with fellow friends. She is excited in helping out with the York Region community with her contribution in NJF.
